Welcome… to the Horseback Archery Store, the new UK web site selling craftsman built bows and archery equipment. Here you will find bows, quivers, arrows and much, much more. Our archery equipment is based on genuine historical and archaeological examples. It is manufactured by modern day master bowyers in Hungary, where the living tradition of horseback archery, developed by many nations and tribes, is still maintained and revered. We are part of the classic-bow.com network, which has been providing excellent archery equipment and fine service internationally for almost a decade.
What makes Hungary so special when it comes to archery and equestrian skills? As Vuksic and Grbasic comment in their book “Cavalry: The History of a Fighting Elite”: “There was not another country in Europe whose history and destiny were so closely tied to horses and riders as ancient Hungary. This territory, now known as the Pannonian valley (and once called the Portal of Europe) saw the westward passage of the Huns, Avars, Magyars, Tatars and Cumans, all of whom left many traces of their warrior and riding skills. Hungary, without any major natural obstacles, could be conquered or defended on horseback only, so, life in those parts was linked with equestrian skills.”
Our products are ideal for archery on horseback, for re-enactors and collectors. Our bows are based on Hungarian, Hun, Avar, Scythian, Mongolian, Turkish, Assyrian and many other originals. The bowmakers include Grozer, and Zoltan and Istvan Toth. These are all manufacturers who have studied early examples of bows and who bring great enthusiasm to maintaining the skills of their craft, giving modern day archers the opportunity to experience handling a bow of exceptional quality.
Our bows come in a range of draw weights and lengths and can be customised to suit the individual. Whilst we have many strong, powerful bows, we are also very proud that there is an excellent selection for women requiring something lighter and more graceful, whilst still supplying a powerful shot. Young people just starting out on the path of archery will find a range of bows to suit them too. In addition there are some interesting and useful articles about the history of archery and the technique and practice of the sport. We will be regularly adding to these.
We hope that you enjoy visiting our web site and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are very happy to answer your enquiries, as we are all history and archery enthusiasts.
